Would a girl accept a suitor despite his modest educational and financial standing, because he is righteous, or would she reject him due to the lack of compatibility between them, taking into consideration that she has reached an advanced age?
The fundamental principle in choosing a spouse is their religiosity and character, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If there comes to you one whose character and religiosity you are pleased with, then marry him [to your daughter]. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." A girl has the right to refuse marriage to someone who possesses religiosity and good character if there is a trait she dislikes in him. However, we advise accepting marriage to this young man and not fearing the differences as long as both parties are committed to the Shari'ah, and after performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance), for Allah will grant success in what is good.
