Is a fiancée considered, by Islamic law, the wife of her fiancé after the Fatiha has been recited, the engagement announced, and she has been adorned with jewelry in the presence and with the approval of the families, even though they will not be alone together until after the wedding in a few months?

A legitimate marriage has conditions and pillars without which it is invalid. If the marriage contract is concluded fulfilling its conditions and pillars, then the woman becomes a wife, and it is permissible for her husband to enjoy her. However, custom dictates that the husband is not allowed to have intercourse with his wife until she is escorted to him, and this custom should be respected. As for engagement, it is merely a promise of marriage, and nothing of the woman becomes permissible thereby. His fiancée remains in the status of a stranger to him until the marriage contract is concluded.
