Why do you permit the acquisition of animated cartoons for children, such as those with an educational purpose, while drawing as a hobby is not permitted? And why are the acquisition of toys for children and watching animated cartoons not considered impermissible, even though drawing and sculpting are considered imitation of God’s creation and prevent angels from entering?

It is not permissible for adults to photograph or possess images of animate beings, as there are authentic hadiths that prohibit this and threaten photographers with severe punishment, and state that angels do not enter a house that contains images. As for children, it is permissible for them to acquire toys and three-dimensional images, due to their need for play and learning. A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, was affirmed in her playing with dolls in the form of girls and winged horses. It is also permissible to show animated films to children, by analogy with the permissibility of their playing with three-dimensional dolls.
