Is it permissible to watch and draw animated films and comic books?

The general rule is that it is forbidden to draw animate beings. However, there is a fatwa permitting the production of purposeful cartoon films and beneficial stories for children, based on the principle of prioritizing benefit. As for watching cartoon films, the matter is less strict. Scholars differ regarding looking at forbidden images of animate beings. The fatwa we adopt permits watching cartoon films and reading illustrated stories, provided they are free from Islamic prohibitions.
