Is it true that the Qur’an did not concern itself with chronological order in its surahs, and is there no benefit in knowing the history of past nations?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The arrangement of the surahs of the Holy Qur’an in the Mus'haf is not according to the order of their revelation, but rather it is by divine concordance (tawqeefi) based on the recitation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Companions. Knowing the history of past nations is important for drawing lessons and admonitions. Much of their news has been mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah, with an emphasis on the benefits rather than the times, places, and individuals, in accordance with His, the Almighty’s, saying: “There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding.”
