What is the ruling on a wife who asks her husband for divorce, and is she sinful for doing so, based on the saying, "Cursed is she who asks her husband for divorce"?

Divorce is one of the worst possible outcomes. One resorts to it only when the marital relationship has deteriorated and continued cohabitation becomes impossible. A woman who seeks divorce without a valid reason is sinful and subject to Allah's wrath, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without any strong reason, the smell of Paradise will be unlawful for her." However, a woman who seeks divorce because her husband does not pray, or because he fails to fulfill her rights and wrongs her, does not fall under this threat, and her request is legitimate.
