What is the ruling on a dedication that describes the Virgin Mary as "the Truthful, Beloved of the Believers, the Pure Virgin, Mistress of the Women of the Worlds, Mother of Jesus, peace be upon her, Mary, daughter of Imran, this is a testimony of innocence from Heaven," and is there any Shariah violation in it?

Writing an "dedication" at the beginning of a book falls into three categories: First, intending thereby to dedicate the reward of writing to the one dedicated to, which is an illegitimate act and was not part of the guidance of the Salaf. Second, intending thereby to curry favor with the one dedicated to, which is an unfitting act. Third, intending thereby to express love and appreciation, and although this is permissible in principle, it should not be done because it was not an action of the righteous Salaf and it involves imitation of the West. If the writer wishes to express his love and appreciation, let it be with explicit words and supplication, not with the term "dedication."
