What is the meaning of the verse: "And of the people are some who take others besides Allah as equals (to Allah) whom they love as they love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah. And if only those who commit wrong could see, when they will see the punishment, that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is severe in punishment"?

The noble verse clarifies that the disbelievers set up rivals to Allah, loving them as they love Him, and equating Allah with their idols in love. In contrast, the believers have a more intense love for Allah, a love that is constant and enduring, not changing in ease or hardship. While the polytheists abandon their worshipped deities in times of distress and resort to Allah, the believer remains constant in his love for Allah in all circumstances. The verse also mentions that if the wrongdoers were to see the severity of the torment, they would know the evil outcome of their disbelief and that their gods would not benefit them.
