The answer

If a man divorces his wife before consummation and valid seclusion, she is entitled to half of the full mahr (both prompt and deferred). The ruling concerning the shabka (engagement gift) differs: it falls under the ruling of the mahr if it was given as part of it or if custom dictates so, in which case the divorced wife is entitled to half of it. It becomes the wife's property if it was given to her as a gift and she took possession of it. It remains the husband's property if it was merely a loan.
