Do parents sin by refusing to marry their son to a specific girl due to a perceived lack of social and familial equality, which led to a complete rift between them and their son?

It is not permissible for parents to prevent their son from marrying a woman of religion and good character, because Islamic law guarantees freedom of choice in marriage. Piety and good character should be the parents' criteria, not wealth or social status. However, the son must obey his parents if they command him to refrain from marrying a specific woman, unless doing so would cause harm to his religious or worldly affairs. But if his heart is attached to the girl and he fears falling into temptation if he leaves her, then he is not obligated to obey them. It is important for a man to marry someone compatible with him in worldly matters to avoid family discord. Finally, it is not permissible for a son to abandon or boycott his parents, no matter how much they wrong him, as this is among the gravest sins. He must repent and seek their رضا (رضا).
