Is a wife's request for divorce from her husband without a compelling reason permissible?

Divorce is the last resort, and one should not resort to it unless cohabitation becomes impossible. Islamic law has clarified how to address the 'nushooz' (disobedience/rebellion) of both the husband and the wife. The spouses should work towards family stability, and each should know and fulfill the rights of the other.
