The answer

It is not permissible for a woman to seek divorce from her husband without a reason, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without any compelling reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." However, if the wife dislikes her husband and fears that she will not be able to observe the limits set by Allah, it is permissible for her to seek a khul' (divorce initiated by the wife) in return for compensation, as Allah Almighty says: "But if you fear that they will not uphold the limits of Allah, then there is no blame upon them for what she gives up to free herself." It is sunnah for the husband to accept his wife's request for khul' if she asks for it.
