Is cheating in private lessons, which does not result in obtaining an official certificate but rather in the student's punishment, permissible to avoid punishment?

Cheating on exams is forbidden and reprehensible, whether they are school or university exams, or private lessons, and whether the exams are for obtaining a certificate or for measuring achievement level. The student must be honest and avoid cheating and deception in all exams, due to the generality of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever cheats us is not of us."
