What is the ruling on a husband preventing his wife from attending religious lessons while allowing her to go shopping?

It is the right of the husband to prevent his wife from going out to study, unless the knowledge is an individual obligation upon her, such as learning Tawhid (monotheism) and the rulings of prayer, and he has not provided her with a means of learning at home. In that case, she may go out to seek it, even without his permission.

Learning the obligatory religious knowledge takes precedence over going out for shopping. Therefore, he should not prevent her from seeking knowledge while allowing her to go out to the markets.
