Is it permissible to perform Umrah on behalf of the Messenger (PBUH) and his noble companions, by proxy from Makkah Al-Mukarramah, using one's private funds, while present there to perform Umrah?

The jurists differed on the permissibility of dedicating the reward of good deeds to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Some, like Al-Fazari, forbade it. Others permitted it, and Al-Subki chose this view, citing the action of Ibn 'Umar, who performed 'Umrah on behalf of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after his death. However, the chain of narration for this story has not been authenticated, but if it is sound, it can be used as an argument. Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen believes that dedicating the reward of acts of worship to the Prophet is an innovation (bid'ah) that was not known among the Companions, as the Prophet is rewarded for every good deed he guided the Ummah to. As for performing 'Umrah on behalf of some Companions, it is permissible, because the preponderant opinion is that the deceased benefits from 'Umrah performed on their behalf.
