Is it permissible for me to supplicate for a friend more than I do for myself?

It is sunnah for one who wishes to supplicate for another to begin with himself, and then supplicate for his companion. Many hadiths indicate this, such as the supplication in the Tashahhud (Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah), and the supplications of Noah and Abraham, peace be upon them. Beginning with oneself in supplication is closer to being answered and more indicative of servitude. However, there is no harm in supplicating for others sometimes without beginning with oneself, especially in pressing need, as hadiths have been narrated to that effect, such as the Prophet's (peace be upon him) supplication for Hajar and Hassan. Nevertheless, making it a habit to supplicate for others more than for oneself is a mistake, because a person is more in need of supplicating for himself and showing his poverty and neediness to Allah.
