What is the meaning of "taʿqīb" (commentary/follow-up) and "taʿlīq" (annotation/suspension)?

"Ta'qib" (follow-up/commentary) and "Ta'liq" (annotation/comment) are two words with different meanings, clarified by context. They may also be used to explain the meanings of certain particles: the particle "fa" (ف) signifies "ta'qib" (sequence) and "tartib" (order), and "ta'liq" (causation); the particle "lam" (ل) signifies "ta'qib" (sequence).

"Ta'qib" can also refer to: a change of mind about a matter; the yellowing of the 'arfaj fruit; waging war then repeating it the following year; hesitation in seeking glory; sitting after prayer to supplicate; and praying after Tarawih and remaining seated.

Furthermore, "Ta'qib" refers to making a correction or addendum to a statement through affirmation, negation, or criticism. "Ta'liq" refers to clarifying a statement.

"Ta'liq" is more general than "Ta'qib"; every "Ta'qib" is a "Ta'liq," but not every "Ta'liq" is a "Ta'qib," as "Ta'qib" applies to what contains a semblance of criticism.
