Is a wife Islamically entitled to demand retribution from her husband if he severely beats her, leading to miscarriage or causing her bruises and fractures?

It is not permissible for a husband to beat his wife severely, breaking a bone or injuring a limb. If a husband assaults his wife with such a beating, then retribution (qisas) will be exacted from him on her behalf.

If the one inflicting the disciplinary punishment (mu'azzir) exceeds the limits, or if intent to kill becomes apparent from him, then qisas becomes obligatory upon him.

There is a difference of opinion regarding whether the action of someone other than the Imam (ruler) should be termed ta'zeer (disciplinary punishment) or ta'deeb (chastisement/disciplining).
