What is the ruling of Islamic law concerning a father who curses himself, his father, his children, and his wife with obscene language, and sometimes commits acts of disbelief (kufr)? Is what he does considered disobedience to parents (ʿuqūq) and slander (qadhf)? What are the resultant rulings, such as the husband falling out of Allah’s mercy? Does repentance erase his sins? Is the wife sinful if she swore by the Qur’an not to live with him and then did not uphold her oath? Does she become divorced? What is the expiation for breaking her oath?

A father cursing himself is a grave evil, and it is feared that Allah may answer his supplication. His cursing his father is one of the major sins. Accusing one's wife or children of adultery is forbidden slander and one of the major sins. Disbelief (kufr) is one of the greatest evils, necessitating eternal damnation in Hellfire if the perpetrator does not repent. The father is in grave danger and must offer sincere repentance. As for the children, there is no sin upon them, but they must forbid him from evil with gentleness and leniency, without raising their voices. As for the mother, divorce does not occur by her statement, and it is not permissible to rule a husband an unbeliever except after fulfilling the conditions and removing impediments. If his disbelief is proven and he does not repent, she must not allow him to have conjugal relations with her. She must also offer expiation for every oath she broke.
