What should a forty-year-old daughter do with her mother, who has been verbally abusing her since childhood and sometimes expels her from the house, while the mother's behavior remains unchanged, knowing that the mother gets angry if the daughter does not visit her?

Whoever is afflicted with a harsh mother must be patient and meet her ill-treatment with kindness and righteousness. Her ill-treatment does not negate the duty of righteousness and kindness towards her, nor does it permit abandoning her. Being kind to parents is one of the most obligatory duties, for Allah Almighty says: "And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And to parents, do good. If one of them or both of them reach old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor repel them but address them in terms of honor. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: 'My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.'" If the mother does not wish for you to visit her, compensate for that with phone calls, and do not reproach her for anything.
