Is it permissible for the Friday preacher to take the minbar outside the mosque, especially given the large numbers of worshippers in a small space and their exposure to heat or cold?

It is not permissible for the Imam to take the minbar outside and deliver the sermon outside the mosque for two reasons: First, some scholars have stipulated for the validity of Jumu'ah that it must be performed in a mosque. If the Imam delivers the sermon and prays outside the mosque, Jumu'ah loses one of its conditions for validity. Second, taking the minbar outside the mosque contradicts the purpose for which the minbar was established, which is for sermons to be delivered upon it inside the mosque. The Imam is advised to shorten the sermon, but not to an extent that compromises its intended meaning. The questioner and his fellow congregants are advised to offer counsel to the Imam with wisdom, gentleness, and kindness.
