What are the causes of not having khushu' (devotion) in prayer, the frequent forgetfulness of the number of rak'ahs, physical and mental lethargy, laziness in religious matters, hardness of heart, and distance from Allah? And what is the relationship of this to the magic that the questioner was subjected to and the seeing of dreams that indicate it?

Reverence (Khushu') in prayer is its essence and soul. To treat laziness in worship and hardness of heart: remember death, ponder the afterlife and the names and attributes of Allah, keep company with the righteous, strive in supplication and seeking refuge in Allah, constantly elevate yourself (spiritually), and repel whispers (waswas) without succumbing to them.
