The answer

A father is not permitted to prevent his daughter from marrying a suitable man whom she accepts, under the pretext of her studies; otherwise, he would be unjustly preventing her marriage. If the girl is religious and of good character, and she accepts you as a husband, but her father does not agree, she is permitted to refer her case to the nearest Islamic center so that they may marry her to you. This is because obedience to parents is conditioned upon not violating the Sharia. Before the marriage contract, the girl is a non-mahram to you, so it is not permissible to be alone with her or to look at her, except for what the Sharia has exempted, which is looking at the face and hands when proposing.
