How can it be determined that the aforementioned oaths (By God, I will not enter so-and-so's house; By God, I will not eat such-and-such; By God, I will not wear such-and-such) are of one kind such that their expiations overlap?

If a person takes multiple oaths concerning different actions and then breaks them, he is required to offer only one expiation, because these expiations are of the same type (oath). This is the view of Imam Ahmad. However, if he is required to offer expiations of different types, such as the expiation for an oath, for ẓihār (a pre-Islamic form of divorce), and for violating the sanctity of Ramadan, then he must expiate for each of them according to what is legally prescribed, and a single expiation is not sufficient for him due to the difference in the types of expiations.
