When is it legislated to boycott the innovator and hate him for the sake of Allah, and is boycotting legislated in this era?

The believer should consider the issue of shunning an innovator (Mubtadi‘) or a disobedient person (ʿĀṣī) from the perspective of the Sharia. If shunning does not lead to a greater evil, then it is a right or a Sunnah. However, if not shunning them is more conducive to inviting and guiding them, then one should not hasten to shun them. Rather, one should hate them for Allah’s sake commensurate with their innovation or disobedience, and love them for Allah’s sake commensurate with their Islam and faith. The decisive factor in shunning is the شرعية (Shar‘īyah) benefit. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, shunned some people for a benefit and did not shun others for a benefit. Therefore, the believer must consider the general welfare: if it necessitates shunning, then shun; and if it necessitates continuing to invite them, then do so.
