Mistreating one's spouse indicates weakness of faith and poor upbringing. It is impermissible for him, according to , to resort to beating and humiliation. The wife should not accede to the husband's demand for khul' in exchange for the mahr. The wife has the right to claim her registered rights and resort to the judiciary. It is advisable to try and counsel the husband before resorting to legal action, as he may realize his mistake. It is also recommended to improve one's connection with Allah and maintain acts of obedience, for tribulation may be a means of returning to Him.
