What should a person do with the money earned from selling tobacco after he has abandoned it, and what is the ruling on smoking and its seller, and what is the ruling on a drug addict and does the ruling on alcohol, regarding the non-acceptance of his prayer for forty days, apply to him?

Smoking, its sale, and purchase are forbidden. The money earned from it is illicit and must be disposed of by spending it on charitable projects and public welfare. It should not be returned to its owner as a deterrent, and this is the most preponderant view.

Drugs are forbidden and prevent the acceptance of the prayers of their user for forty mornings, because they intoxicate the mind. Intoxicants are what cloud the mind, as defined by Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. It is reported in the noble Hadith that whoever drinks intoxicants, their prayers will not be accepted for forty mornings.
