If the wife behaves poorly and makes life miserable with problems, she is sinful and disobedient. It is not permissible for her to leave the house for this reason, and she is considered a nashiz (rebellious wife), losing her right to maintenance unless she is pregnant. Writing a divorce in a message is one of the allusions to divorce; if the husband intended it, then it takes effect, otherwise not. So, if the husband's intention from the message was to divorce his wife if she did not return by the specified time, then she is divorced by that, otherwise the divorce does not take effect. If the divorce takes effect, he may take her back before her iddah (waiting period) is complete, provided this divorce does not complete the third divorce.
