Is traveling in pursuit of knowledge and for the salvation of one's religion from tribulations considered disobedience to parents, especially when the mother is not in need of financial support or care, and she refuses to wear the khimar and abandon conversing with men?

The mother does not have the right to prevent her son from traveling if he needs to earn a living for marriage and to safeguard himself, and this is not possible for him in his own country. This is not an act of disobedience (ʿuqūq) because obedience to parents is not obligatory if it causes harm to the child. However, if the son is able to earn a living in his country and is not harmed by not traveling, then he should not travel if his mother prevents him, even if he hopes to acquire non-obligatory knowledge or seek a righteous environment, for obedience to parents takes precedence. The son must strive to safeguard himself and remain in his country, and exert effort in reforming his mother and sister with gentleness and politeness, and helping them to repent and become righteous.
