Standing is a pillar (rukn) of the obligatory prayer (fard salat) that is not waived except in cases of inability or hardship. The closure of the women's prayer room and the passage of cars are not valid excuses for abandoning it. Therefore, the prayers performed sitting in the car must be repeated. A traveler is permitted to combine and shorten prayers, but it is not permissible to delay all prayers until the time of return. If a traveler arrives at his city and intends to stay for four days or more, the ruling of travel no longer applies to him, and he must complete the prayer. For one who missed a prayer while traveling and its time has passed, repentance and making up the prayer (qada') are obligatory. According to the Hanbalis and the new view of the Shafi'is, it is safer to make it up as a complete prayer, while the Malikis and Hanafis say it should be made up as a shortened prayer.
