Is interest on capital considered usury (riba), especially with exorbitant price increases and volatile prices that lead to the erosion of the value of capital saved in the bank?
Allah has definitively prohibited usury and has warned those who engage in it of war from Him and His Messenger. The Sunnah curses the one who consumes usury, the one who feeds it, its scribe, and its two witnesses. It also states that usury has seventy sins, the least of which is like a man marrying his own mother. Therefore, high prices do not permit usury. Whoever fears poverty should be mindful of Allah, for He is the Provider who creates a way out and provides from where one does not expect for those who fear Him.
