Is it recommended for a woman to work to increase her wealth and help the poor and needy, even if she is not in need of money?

The basic principle is for a woman to remain in her home, attending to the affairs of her husband and children, as Allah Almighty says: "And abide in your houses" (Quran 33:33). This is also because the husband is obligated to provide for her. If the work does not require leaving the home or neglecting the rights of the husband and children, then her work with the intention of charity is commendable, as Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) did. However, if the work necessitates leaving the home, she is permitted to do so for the sake of commendable charity, provided she adheres to the Islamic guidelines, such as wearing the hijab and avoiding mixing with men (ikhtilat) and places of temptation. This is based on the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) statement to Jabir's aunt: "Yes, prune your date palms, for you may give charity or do good."
