A woman's charity to her poor husband and daughters is considered an act of charity, and the Prophetic Sunnah has affirmed this. It is not permissible for a woman to go out to work without her husband's permission, even if he is poor, unless he is given a choice between allowing her to work or annulment. If he cannot provide for her, she has the right to seek divorce or annulment. The guardianship (qawamah) of men over women is legally established and is not limited to financial provision only; rather, it includes Allah's favoritism of men with intellect, composure, authority, and other qualities. The marital relationship is based on "retaining with kindness or sending off with goodness," and each party must fulfill their obligatory rights.
