Is it obligatory for a wife to give charity from her salary, which is only enough for necessities and helping her family, or is it sufficient to limit herself to helping her family, which is considered an obligatory expenditure or a charity that suffices for giving other charity?

According to the majority of scholars, a free, mature woman has the right to dispose of her lawful wealth without her husband's permission. If "charity" refers to zakat, it is only obligatory when the wealth reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) and a full year has passed over it. As for spending on parents, it is not obligatory if they are wealthy, but it becomes obligatory if they are poor, knowing that financial provision in the marital home is the husband's responsibility. If the wife spends on her needy husband and children, she will receive a great reward, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Ibn Mas'ud spoke the truth, your husband and your children are more deserving of your charity than others," and his saying: "Charity given to a poor person is charity, and charity given to a relative is both charity and strengthening of kinship ties." It is permissible for her to give charity to others with wealth that exceeds their needs.
