The answer

Backbiting is forbidden and a major sin. Repentance from it is obligatory, and Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent. If it is possible to mend what backbiting has corrupted without causing discord, then do so. Otherwise, increase your seeking of forgiveness for those against whom the backbiting was committed. The Hadith, "A slanderer (qatāt) will not enter Paradise," is authentic and constitutes a severe warning. It is interpreted to apply to one who considers backbiting permissible or that they will not enter Paradise initially. A man's conversation with a non-mahram woman is permissible out of necessity, provided there is no fear of temptation and Islamic guidelines are adhered to.
