The mentioned distance is considered a journey that permits shortening and combining prayers. Travel concessions can be availed during the going and return periods. At home, you are a resident, but at work, you are a traveler, according to the soundest opinions of scholars. This is the view of the Malikis and Shafi'is, who believe that whoever intends to stay in a country for four days or more is considered a resident, and less than that is considered a traveler, not counting the days of arrival and departure. Consequently, Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays are considered a travel period during which concessions are permissible.
