The ruling concerning travel is discontinued for the Maliki and Shafi'i schools of thought simply by the intention to reside for four days or more. According to Imam Ahmad, it is discontinued by the intention to reside for a period during which one would perform more than twenty prayers. So, if you are residing in your workplace for four days or more, or upon your return to your hometown, you are not permitted to avail yourself of the concessions of travel.
