Is it permissible to reclaim part of a sum donated for building mosques?

What a person donates for the construction of a mosque or similar charitable works, he is not permitted to take back, nor any part of it. This is based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Do not buy it back, even if he gives it to you for a single dirham, for the one who takes back his gift is like a dog that returns to its vomit."
