The question

What are the best supplications (duas) to recite when drinking Zamzam water? Can some supplications be replaced by others that are more general and comprehensive? What is the authenticity of limiting supplications to three after drinking? Is it permissible to supplicate in one's heart without raising the hands? And what are the manners of drinking Zamzam water and supplicating thereafter?

The answer

The best supplications are those that are authentically transmitted, especially the supplication: "Our Lord, grant us in this world good, and in the Hereafter good, and protect us from the torment of the Fire." It is legislated for a Muslim, when drinking Zamzam water, to ask for whatever good they wish for in this world and the Hereafter, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for," and his saying: "When one of you asks, let him ask a lot, for he is only asking his Lord." It is recommended to say Bismillah and drink in three sips. After drinking, one should supplicate with certainty and a good opinion of Allah, and say when drinking it: "O Allah, it has reached me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for.' O Allah, I am drinking it for such and such."
