Does placing anime (cartoon) pictures of characters wearing the hijab as my personal avatar in online forums fall under the category of forbidden imagery, and must they be removed?

Some scholars have permitted cartoon images that do not contain anything contrary to creed or morals. Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen strengthened the view that they should not be equated with real images. However, it is more prudent to avoid them due to the general wording of the prophetic traditions concerning imagery.
