Are the costs of a wife's adornment for her husband considered an obligatory expenditure, and is she entitled to request the purchase of safe and suitable cosmetics if her husband considers that to be extravagance, and what should she do about that?

The husband is not obligated to provide cosmetics for his wife, nor is she obligated to provide them for herself. However, if he does provide them, she is obliged to use them. Both spouses should be keen on strengthening the affection between them, and this includes each adorning themselves for the other. The wife can ask her husband for adornments in a calm manner, and she should not neglect to adorn herself for him, as adornment is not limited to cosmetics. Rather, it includes clothing, words, and gestures that make him attached to her, while using available adornments that do not cause harm. The husband should also be warned about the danger of watching television and the forbidden sights it contains, and reminded of Allah's saying: "Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do."
