If the husband spends within what is reasonable, it is not permissible for the wife to take from his money without his permission. However, if he does not spend within what is reasonable, it is permissible for her to take what is sufficient for her needs without his permission. The obligatory maintenance is the amount sufficient for food, housing, and clothing according to the circumstances of the spouses. The cost of adornment is not part of the obligatory maintenance unless the husband requests her to adorn herself with it.
