What is the clarification and explanation of the Hadith: "The son of Adam has his share of adultery written for him, which he will inevitably attain. The eye commits adultery, and its adultery is gazing; the ear commits adultery, and its adultery is listening; and the private parts affirm or deny that"? And is the Hadith: "Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge" restricted to religious knowledge, or does it include worldly knowledge? And what is the punishment for men who gaze at women in this world and the Hereafter, with evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah?

The agreed-upon authentic hadith means that every person has been destined to have a share of zina (unlawful sexual intercourse); some of it is actual zina by committing the immoral act, and some of it is metaphorical zina, like looking, listening, touching, walking towards, and engaging in unlawful speech. The private parts either confirm or deny this, meaning they may commit zina or refrain out of fear of Allah. Scholars have clarified that "has been written" (كُتِبَ) means it has been affirmed in the Preserved Tablet that the son of Adam will have his share and portion of the precursors to zina, such as looking, wishing, and touching. Or, it means that it has been decreed for him that zina will, in general, occur through him. It was also said that it means Allah created for him the senses through which he finds pleasure in that thing. It does not mean compulsion or coercion. Rather, the love of desires has been ingrained in his nature, and Allah protects whom He wills by His grace. The intended meaning of "inward precursors" is involuntary thoughts. This hadith refutes the Qadariyyah and emphasizes that the actions of servants are predetermined. "The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the tongue is speaking, the soul wishes and desires, and the private parts either confirm or deny this." These things are called zina because they are its motives and precursors.
