Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, kill the prisoners upon the consultation of Umar ibn al-Khattab?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took Abu Bakr's counsel regarding the prisoners of Badr and accepted ransom from them. As for those who could not pay ransom, their ransom was to teach ten Muslim children. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not take Umar ibn al-Khattab's opinion to kill the prisoners. This is indicated by Allah Almighty's admonishment to him when He said: "It is not for a prophet to have captives until he has inflicted a great slaughter [upon the disbelievers] in the land. You [believers] desire the commodities of this world, but Allah desires the Hereafter. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. Had it not been for a decree from Allah that preceded, you would have been touched for what you took by a tremendous punishment. So consume what you have taken of war booty as lawful and good, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
