Which is better in Ramadan: prolonging the Tarawih prayer or increasing the number of rak'ahs?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is best to adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his guidance regarding the night prayer (Qiyam al-Layl). He, peace and blessings be upon him, consistently performed it and prolonged his recitation, saying: "The best prayer is that with prolonged Qunut (standing)." It is authentically reported that he recited Surat al-Baqarah, Surat an-Nisa, and Surat Aal-Imran in a single rak'ah. He did not exceed eleven rak'ahs, neither in Ramadan nor at other times, praying four, then four, then three. So, whoever emulates him in the manner of his standing and prayer has done well and correctly.
