The Sharia commanded that a wife be treated kindly and with benevolence, and that she not be harmed in any way. It forbade ill-treatment of her, whether verbal or physical, and deemed such acts to be sins that could amount to major sins. The Sharia granted the wife the right to seek divorce if she is harmed by her husband's ill-treatment. The Sharia guaranteed women the freedom to dispose of their private wealth without their husband's permission, and he has no right to know her salary or object to how she spends it. Furthermore, among a wife's rights upon her husband is for him to consider her in matters of intimacy and prepare her for it.
