If the gifts are not in exchange for an illicit enjoyment, then it is permissible to own them and benefit from them. However, if they are in exchange for an illicit enjoyment, then one must dispose of them by spending them on the interests of Muslims, and it is not permissible to keep them or return them to the giver. As for what was spent from them in the past, there is no issue with it.
