It is permissible for a physician to give from his zakat to a patient who cannot afford the cost of treatment or a necessary surgery, provided that the money is transferred to the patient and he has absolute discretion over it. This does not contradict the physician benefiting from publishing the results of operations, while emphasizing the importance of sincere intention for Allah the Almighty when giving zakat.
