Is there a relationship between divine decree (Qada) and destiny (Qadar) and a mother's prayer against her child?

Everything that befalls a person in this universe occurs by Allah's decree and destiny, and this includes a mother's supplication and its acceptance. Allah may make supplication a means to avert an decreed misfortune from a servant, in accordance with the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Nothing averts destiny except supplication."
