The question

Is expiation required for someone who swore to abandon something, then intended to do it but did not? And how much expiation is required for someone who swore not to watch two different TV series, a movie, and a habit, then did all of that?

The answer

The majority of scholars hold that breaking an oath (al-hanth) occurs by doing what one swore to abstain from, or by failing to do what one swore to do. Mere intention is not considered breaking an oath and does not necessitate expiation (kaffarah).

Regarding the multiplicity of expiations: 1. If the oaths are numerous concerning different matters (e.g., an oath not to watch a certain series, then another oath not to watch a different series), then an expiation is due for each oath according to the majority of scholars. 2. If there is a single oath concerning different matters (e.g., "By Allah, I will not eat, nor drink, nor wear this"), then only one expiation is due, because the oath and its breaking are one.
